CONTEXT • MMarx Engels Forum gets stuck between different urban spaces, that clash in an unsafe and scattered urban void. Alexanderplatz and Mark Engels Forum are fragmented between two different scales and micro spaces. The majesty of the Fernseheturm looks like floating on the groundfloor whit an effect of extensive distances. The strong axiality allows the reflection into the Spree river and helps to shorten the visual distances.
PROPOSAL • This sequence (the river, Marx Engels Forum, Alexanderplatz) is enhanced by the proposal, with a lush green “bosquet”, which embraces the central “esplanade”. Like a big hug, the “bouquet” aims to connect visually and spatially the entire space with its borders and strengthen the central historical axis. The central esplanade takes the form of a soft slope that gently leans on the river. The connection with the river became stronger, offering an enjoyable promenade on the riverbanks. Free access for all is the main idea across the whole space. The “bouquet” plays a central role as a bond between the facades and the central esplanade: it reduces the scale and offers a secure space for new open-air activities.
